What to Expect from Therapy Sessions
In our initial session, I will take the time to get to know you and hear your story. It’s crucial for me to understand why you are seeking therapy and what you aim to achieve during our time together. Building trust is a top priority. In our first few sessions, I will clearly outline expectations, discuss confidentiality, and assist you with any necessary paperwork.
Together, we will establish your goals for therapy, ensuring they are reasonable, realistic, and, most importantly, attainable. Recognize that your goals may evolve throughout the course of treatment, and we will routinely review them to ensure you are making progress in the areas you have identified.
In subsequent sessions, I will help you pinpoint obstacles and propose new strategies and solutions to overcome them. We will identify any behaviors that may be hindering your progress. I will support you in recognizing and building on your existing strengths while also helping you develop new skills and coping mechanisms.
After each session, you will leave with concrete action steps to pursue your goals for the week ahead. Remember, counseling is about empowering you to take charge of your journey; all decisions are ultimately yours to make.
